Jamnapari Goat

  • Jamnapari originated in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh and is specifically associated with Chakarnagar tehsil. The name is derived from the river Yamuna.
  • It is reared for both milk and meat.There is considerable variation in colour but the typical Jamnapari is white with patches of tan on the neck and head.
  • Their head has a highly convex nose, which makes them look like parrots.
  • They have long flat hooked ears which are about 25 cm long.
  • Both sexes have horns.
  • The udder has round, conical nipples and is well developed.
  • They usually have long legs.
  • Jamnapari males can weigh up to 50 kg, while females can reach around 38 kg, depending on climatic and environmental conditions.
