Jamnapari originated in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh and is specifically associated with Chakarnagar tehsil. The name is derived from the river Yamuna.
It is reared for both milk and meat.There is considerable variation in colour but the typical Jamnapari is white with patches of tan on the neck and head.
Their head has a highly convex nose, which makes them look like parrots.
They have long flat hooked ears which are about 25 cm long.
Both sexes have horns.
The udder has round, conical nipples and is well developed.
They usually have long legs.
Jamnapari males can weigh up to 50 kg, while females can reach around 38 kg, depending on climatic and environmental conditions.
